Porsche 964RS in Ruby Stone Red
The very highly respected Porsche 964RS in Ruby Stone Red. One of the last Porsche's that doesn't have driver aids, airbags etc weighing it down.
I took paint thickness readings and was able to give the owner the good news that every panel was original, no after-market paint had been applied. This is rare to find on a car so old and especially as its a track car.
The usual process followed, wheels first....
Just a few brushes and potions....
Next the car was washed using the finest quality sheepskin wash mitts. The pile in the mitt allows any dirt disturbed to be lifted away from the paint surface, thus reducing the swirling effect you get with sponges. Sponges inflict defects in your paint, do not use them.
The car is dried using a microfibre drying towel. Each panel is pat dried to ensure any grit left will not inflict any defects.
The engine bay is then detailed. All plastic and rubber surfaces are nourished with Swissvax Pneu. This will help sustain the life of the trim and hoses.
Then the interior is detailed. Once vacuumed and plastics cleaned the leather surfaces are cleaned and restored.
I use Gliptone's Liquid Leather. Its a two stage clean and condition process. The results of this treatment are always once of my favourite parts of a detail. Liquid Leather removes tremendous amounts of dirt, and when applied well removes shininess, returns softness and a lovely leather scent.
This sequence of pictures shows the clean terry towel, application of the cleaner gel, the towel after just the outside bolster and the towel after doing one seat.
Its then time to prepare the car for paint correction by removing any bounded on contaminants using detailing clay.
The all trims that need protecting from the polishing stage are masked using specialist 3M tape. The halogen site lamps are used to expose every defect in the paint work allowing me to remove 100% of the swirls.
Once the machine polishing is completed the paintwork is prepared for the finishing wax.
For this detail we selected Swissvax Divine. Divine is Swissvax's premier wax, retailing at £1380, it contains over 60% by volume of ultra pure Brazilian white carnauba. The finish is stunning and the longevity of the protection has to be experienced to be believed.
To prepare for the wax it is necessary to clean the paint work with Swissvax's pre-wax oil, Cleaner Fluid. The Cleaner Fluid cleanses the surface, removing any polish residues and feeding the paint with oils to reduce oxidation and provide UV protection.
Finally the car is finished by tyre dressing and glass polishing.
I hope you enjoyed the read and learnt a little more about car care and detailing.
